Former Physician Faces Sexual Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former physician now faces charges for carrying out sexual assaults involving thirty-eight victims who were under his care.

The Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of acts of sexual assault – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges follow what investigators called a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors said the forty-five sexual offences include:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Police have asked anyone with concerns to get in touch with the investigating team.
