Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
