In the wake of significant rainfall that caused flooding across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with abnormally hot conditions for late February.
Record-Shattering Heat
By Friday afternoon, the temperature climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city center, according to weather officials. This easily surpasses the previous daily record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was established just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on official maps for the region.
Public Health Advisories
Authorities cautioned that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Dramatic Weather Swing
This sharp rise in heat follows closely after a massive winter storm that struck the area last week. That event unleashed heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, leading to evacuation orders for millions residents.

Forecast Ahead
Looking ahead cooler conditions will arrive. Readings were predicted to decrease to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown LA by overnight.
Other locales that hit 90°F included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were expected to experience the upper eighties.
Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown Los Angeles can see weather in the eighties, with a further cooldown expected for the following week.
