‘Oh How We Will Miss This Man’: Meg Ryan Publishes Moving Tribute to Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Tragic Discovery
Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home over the weekend.
“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan wrote on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”
Court Case Developments
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and appeared in court today. He’s being held without bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.
“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan added. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”
A Statement from Siblings
Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy shared a statement today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”
Hollywood Tributes Pour In
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner via comments shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” it read. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.
Reiner’s celebrated filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
