Recent Details Surface Concerning the Finding of the Reiner Couple's Remains
Recent details have emerged about the untimely deaths of renowned film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Los Angeles home residence on Sunday.
The Discovery
As detailed in an account citing a family associate, a massage therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after being unable to gain access the residence. This individual then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides nearby.
Upon entering the house, Romy discovered her father's body. It is said she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also inside. Her roommate who had gone with her promptly called 911. Afterward, first responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Charges
Law enforcement have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of first-degree murder, along with the use of a dangerous weapon, said to be a knife. He is presently detained and is ineligible for bail.
Clarifications
The person close to the family challenged several earlier details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the estate, she did not identify him as a suspect at that moment.
Furthermore pushed back against circulated claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "worried" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement also extends to accounts of alleged "unstable" behavior by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. While the source noted they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they maintained that suggestions of a "heated argument" between the two were inaccurate.
Investigation Timeline
Per law enforcement officials, the coroner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary media reports indicated the state of their bodies implied they had been dead for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the scene. He was set to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had a medical issue and would be unable to attend until Wednesday at the earliest.
