Shock as Renowned South African DJ Killed in Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.

The purpose of the shooting is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, according to authorities.

The Fatal Incident

Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises close to the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the site overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, according to reports.

"It is alleged the man was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," an official report stated.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what resembled a security uniform firing shots on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but fell down across the street.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.

Important clues, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.

"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and police have been following their trail to determine their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the relatives are devastated to come to terms with the loss.

"I am in shock. I don't have words," she stated.

In a communication, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
