The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
