Two Detentions Following London Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Incident

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault caused the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking area.

An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people were injured by what is thought to be an irritant spray, as stated by law enforcement.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth for suspected robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.

The arrests follow an investigation into an attack at the multi-level parking garage at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the attack, two women were robbed of their luggage upon exiting a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was among the injured during the incident. Five people were taken to the hospital for medical care and have since been released.

Officers detained a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault near the scene. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Authorities were called at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding a number of people hurt by an irritating chemical believed to be pepper spray.

The assault - which authorities stated was isolated and not being treated as terrorism - resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
