Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the rampant praise and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
